Avoid the Stress of Moving With These 5 Tips

June 18, 2019

It’s a well-known fact: moving is one of the most stressful situations in life. However, moving to a new apartment tends to be a necessary evil for many of us, especially depending on our life situation. If you’re getting ready to make a big move, use these tips to stay calm and avoid stress during this pivotal time in your life.

Do Not Move Over the Holidays

If you think the holidays are stressful enough, add moving on top of it all and you have a recipe for disaster. Aside from the added stress of moving, you’ll have to deal with a mass amount of traffic, relatives wanting to visit, and packed stores.

You may have time off work during the holidays and think this is the best time to move, but in reality it’s best to avoid the holidays completely.

Organize Your Move

The sooner you can organize your moving plans, the better. Being organized and having a schedule in place will calm your nerves about the entire moving process.

Make sure you have a system for packing, for transporting, and for unloading. This will provide you with such great peace of mind during the entire situation.

Of course, you can always use a professional moving company! Just make sure to do your research before you select one, and keep any valuables hidden or move them yourself. Moving companies can be great, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Get Rid of Unnecessary Items

Clutter is quite possibly the top stressor of the moving process. Meaningless gadgets, clothes, and other household items can pile up in boxes, causing more trips. In reality, do you really need all of these items?

It is in your best interest to throw out or donate any old, unused and unwanted items prior to beginning your packing process. You’ll save time by using fewer boxes and fewer trips back and forth!

Ask For Help

For whatever reason, many individuals feel reluctant to ask for help when moving. Don’t be! Your friends and family can be of great service to you during this crazy time. If you provide snacks and drinks, your family and friends should be more than happy to help you out. Besides, it’s much cheaper and more fun than hiring a moving company!

Have a Back-Up Plan

From weather to schedule changes to family emergencies, you never know what could affect your moving plans. It is in your best interest to have some sort of a back-up plan in place, just in case.
